2024/25 Interior Design Trends

We’re a proud family business that’s been creating furniture that blends functionality and style for over fifty years. Whether you’re looking to refresh your living room with something modern or want to keep things classic, HSL’s range of recliners, chairs and sofas offer something for everyone.
We’ll take you through some of the top interior design trends for 2024/25, showing you how to incorporate our furniture into different design styles. With a focus on furniture that’s both stylish and supportive, you’re sure to find pieces that fit into your home, no matter which trends you prefer.
The History of HSL Furniture
HSL was founded in 1968 by Jeffrey and Patricia Burrows with the simple aim of “producing comfortable, quality furniture”. They turned this idea into reality by partnering with skilled local craftsmen and women in Dewsbury, a town that’s famous for its fine furniture making heritage.
Today, second-generation owners William and Debra Burrows continue that legacy, creating beautiful furniture that’s designed to support your neck, back and hips, from riser recliners to beds. Our head office and factory are located just around the corner from where the business started all those years ago, and we’re still as committed to working with local craftspeople as we were 50 years ago.
Design Trends Overview
HSL has a long history of crafting high-quality furniture, right here in Britain. But we never get stuck in the past – we always have one eye on the future. So with that in mind, here’s how you can stay ahead of the game with our 2024/25 interior design trends. From the best modern fabrics and leathers to the latest design styles, here’s how to elevate your space.
Contemporary Design
Contemporary design is a big style trend for 24/25, and it’s all about clean lines, neutral colours and furniture that’s functional. Contemporary styles usually feature sleek silhouettes that offer both form and function, without sacrificing comfort – check out our Ascot Signature Chair, Bramham Collection or Carnaby Collection if you’re looking for beautifully modern designs.
You can, of course, choose from a range of different fabrics to suit your home – but the contemporary trend typically features neutral shades like whites, blacks, greys and beiges, so keep it muted if you want to nail this trend.

Classic Design
Classic design is synonymous with elegance and timeless appeal. It features ornate detailing such as deep winged backs and wood arm details. Rich colours are also typical of this trend, with lots of rich reds and blues. Floral patterns are also a great way of embracing the classic trend.
If you want a timeless piece of furniture that combines traditional design with modern comfort, you’ll love classic HSL designs like the Glenmore Collection, Knaresborough Armchair and the stylish, supportive Aysgarth Collection.

Integrating HSL Furniture into Home Decor
HSL has furniture to suit every home decor style. Whether you want to learn how to maximise your space, coordinate colours, or enhance your room with accessories, here’s how to make the most of your HSL furniture.
Space Planning
When choosing where to position your recliner or sofa, consider what type of furniture best suits both our needs and your space. Remember that recliners need space to fully recline, meaning they can’t be positioned right up against the wall – but if you’re opting for a sofa or chair, these can be placed against the wall to make the most of your available space.
The size and layout of your room will also play a role in how to best position your furniture to ensure easy movement and balance within the room.
Colour Coordination
Do you want your new HSL furniture to complement your existing furniture and interior style? Or do you want to create a striking contrast? The choice is yours! If you want to complement contemporary furniture, choose neutral colours like grey, beige, black, white or cream to maintain a minimalist look and feel. If you’re choosing classic furniture, you can’t go wrong with rich tones like burgundy, navy or forest green, which all work beautifully with more ornate detailing and traditional aesthetics.
And if you prefer leather, you’ll be pleased to know that it works well for both classic and contemporary designs, depending on the finish and colour. Classic furniture works well with rich, dark leathers for a timeless, luxurious feel, while contemporary furniture styles look great with sleek, natural-tones leathers.
Accentuating with Accessories
Accessories like cushions, footstools, ottomans, throws and rugs are a great way to add a touch of personality to your space. If you want to complement contemporary furniture, choose minimalist accessories in eye-catching bold colours or geometric patterns, while richly textured fabrics like velvet and wool look wonderful paired with classic furniture styles.
And don’t forget about the lighting. Well-placed lamps and spotlights can highlight the furniture’s design, while a carefully chosen lightshade can help to tie the whole look together.
Styling Tips for HSL Recliners and Sofas
HSL furniture is versatile enough to suit a range of decor styles. Below, we explore how to style your recliners and sofas for both contemporary and classic interiors.
Contemporary Style
Maintain a modern look by keeping the area around your recliner clutter-free. Functional storage like side tables with baskets and ottomans can help to keep mess out of sight for a sleek, minimalist look. You could even choose other furniture (such as coffee tables and TV units) with clean lines and simple designs to complement your HSL chair, sofa or recliner.
When choosing fabrics, consider opting for soft, neutral-toned fabrics or natural-toned leather for a contemporary look and feel – without sacrificing any comfort or sophistication. Subtle textures, such as linen or smooth leather, can add interest while still maintaining the overall modern aesthetic.

Classic Style
To tap into the classic trend, enhance your sofa or recliner with luxurious fabrics and intricate patterns. Choose deep shades like burgundy and navy, or choose beautiful patterned fabrics for a timeless look. Accents of deep wood like mahogany will enhance the overall warm, elegant effect.
Styling your furniture is another wonderful way of achieving the classic look. Drape throws over your sofa or add decorative cushions in coordinating shades. This will create depth and create a cosy, inviting atmosphere in your home.
